Course Content

Theory

  • Basic understanding and the dangers of working in the industry and responsibilities as an operator.

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 – Employers & Employees Duties.

  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).

  • Principle of the machine.

  • Rated capacity/Load centres.

  • Understand the causes of instability of equipment and load.

  • Operators safety code.

  • Relevant films.

  • Theory test.

Practical

  • Carry out a pre-use inspection checks.

  • Prep machine for use and operate safe and efficiently.

  • Identify major components and explain functions.

  • Advanced steering (chicane, confined areas).

  • Elementary use of hydraulic controls.

  • Loading and unloading a vehicle (if required).

  • Trenching, grading, stock pilling.

  • Use and change of attachments (if required).

  • Knowledge of unloading and loading procedures for machine transportation.

  • Operators practical skills test.

All plant courses cover the 3 elements required for completion of the Basic Operators Skills test.

Novice

For the new operator with no experience. Starting from the ground up and encompassing all aspects of machine understanding, operation and safety.

Experienced

Shorter duration course for trainees with prior operating experience and familiarisation with the equipment.

Refresher

For the previously trained and certified operator. The Safety Refresher is designed to assist with compliance of Health & Safety Regulations and insurance requirements.

Conversion

For converting currently trained operators from one machine category to another i.e conversion from Counterbalance to Reach truck.
