Course Content

Overview

The Lorry Mounted Loader trainee will be expected to identify basic construction and components of their crane together with their uses, limitations and principles of operation and understand the hydraulic system, operator duties and responsibilities.

By the end of this training the operator will be able to safely enter a site, locate a suitable area to set up and tip, carry out a controlled lift and then with a secured load, pack up the crane and prepare to travel away.

Content

  • Basic understanding of the dangers of working in the industry and responsibilities as a plant operator

  • Working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook in-regards to the use of the machine

  • Be able to identify all controls and explain function

  • Undertake pre-operational checks aligned to the manufactures and legislative requirements

  • Safely mount and dismount machine

  • Start/stop engine move the machine and stop in a safe manner

  • Align machine for travel and manoeuvre safely in laden and unlade state in confined/open space

  • Manoeuvre machine in a working area to prepare for lifting and loading tasks

  • Conduct all safety checks

  • Lift and transfer loads in various locations, load and unload external transport in a safe manner

  • Remove, adjust and fit attachments

All HIAB courses cover the 3 elements required for completion of the Basic Operators Skills test.

Novice

For the new operator with no experience. Starting from the ground up and encompassing all aspects of machine understanding, operation and safety.

Experienced

Shorter duration course for trainees with prior operating experience and familiarisation with the equipment.

Refresher

For the previously trained and certified operator. The Safety Refresher is designed to assist with compliance of Health & Safety Regulations and insurance requirements.

Conversion

For converting currently trained operators from one machine category to another.
